06/08: Moses Carooth Knighton
The following is information about Moses Carooth Knighton's family. He was my gggrandfather. He was born in South Carolina in 1825, the son of Samuel Knighton and Nancy Laughmiller.
During the late 1820's, the Knighton family moved from South Carolina. According to Thomas Cannon Knighton's descendant, History Profesor Dr. Dan Wimberly, " Things were not going well in South Carolina in the late 1820's. Prices for crops had fallen, and other parts of the South were opening up for farmers. Also, the "planter elite" ruled South Carolina. In 1833, President Andrew Jackson threatened to send troops to South Carolina...
